Welcome to the first part of my Retro Inspiration series.  I’m going to start off the series by focusing on the Technicolor Mark Ten Super 8 Reflex Zoom Movie Camera.

As this is the first substantial post in the series I wanted to do something a little special, so I have for you an original scanned owner’s manual for the camera.  I received these instructions when I purchased the camera off eBay a couple of months ago and they are just an amazing example of retro design.  The entire 16 page manual is available to download (link above) in a .PDF.  The file is about 20.5 MB.  The PDF contains high resolution images of the manual, and let me tell you, they are gorgeous.  Many of the images could probably be used for Desktop Wallpapers.  This was my first time putting together something like this, so I hope you enjoy it!

Here are two images from the camera in my collection.  It has an amazing rugged design, and has held up well over the years, there’s only a few scuff marks on it.  I have tested it out and everything seems to work.  The mechanism turns on and functions and the light meter still appears to be sensitive.  I’m planning on ordering some Ektachrome 100D in the near future and I’m looking forward to testing the camera out!

Welcome to the first part of my “Retro Inspiration” series.  The goal of this series is to pay homage and raise awareness to the design and aesthetics of days gone by, such as the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s with a current focus on film (video and photography).  My interest in these decades of design is somewhat new and I think it can be attributed in small part to 2001: A Space Odyssey.  In my opinion it is one of the most beautiful movies of all time.  I am by no means an authority on design, especially during these time periods, but I have found a strange beauty that lies in these decades and that wonder is what I hope to share with you.

The first part of this “Retro Inspiration” series will focus on 8mm and Super 8.  I’m planning on sharing images of equipment (cameras, projectors, viewers) and even films themselves.  In the future I hope to cover 35mm and medium format as well.  I’m all set for the first part of this series, as I have most of the equipment I need to start filming, so it shouldn’t be too long before I can share some of my results.  Please join me as I do a lot of learning and share my findings with you!

Theshoreways.com is officially back in business.  I have finally finished the redesign of the site and have gotten just about everything back in working order after the move.  The site is now hosted off 1&1, which means no more external downloads or having to leave the site to download anything.  Though I would like to thank mediafire for providing over 50,000 downloads and serving over 2 TB of data, all for free!

Things have been a little busy, crazy and different around here.  I have not even come close to the amount of time I’ve wanted to invest in this website .  First of all, I wanted to apologize for the site’s downtime.  In case you missed it, the site has been down for about the last two months due to some hosting issues, which I’m in the process of getting resolved.  Second, I’m somewhat in the process of working on a new site.  It’s going to be more of a portfolio site, but I want to incorporate all of the freebies I’ve given out, and hope to continue to give out.  Lastly, I wanted to thank everyone who has supported the blog.  It’s still going to be around, but most likely in a far different shape and form.

This probably deserves it’s own post, but I figured I would share it with you now.  Enjoy, and check this guy out!

Hey again.  I hope you all enjoyed my Cardboard Lite Texture pack.  I had an awesome time putting it together.  I hope you are ready for some more freebies, because today I have for you my Cardboard Grunge Texture Pack.  This pack has a lot of the same textures that I used in the Lite pack, only I have “grungified” them.  I used my Photoshop Brushes to achieve the grunge effect.

Hey everyone.  It’s been about two months since my last post.  Ouch.  Unfortunately I have not had the amount of time I would like to devote to this site in the past few weeks (and months).  My apologies.  However, The next weeks and months should play out a little differently.  As you can see I have some new content to share with you today.  I’m calling it Cardboard Lite.

Well here it is.  The first set of my “Acrylic Texture” PS Brushes series.  After the “success” of my first Acrylic Brush set, I figured it was time to revisit the medium.  It was a lot of fun putting these together so please go out and enjoy them!

For this set I went with a more circular design, which I find handy as it gives you a different feel from any angle.  If you’re more into brush strokes, look for the second set of this series.  The brushes will still be circular-ish (round?), but will have more defined brush strokes on the edges.

The set contains 15 brushes, ALL of which are 2500px exactly.  Below is a small preview of 8 of the brushes in the set.  If you are a follower of my sets you know I always put in at least one splatter type brush.  I’m not really sure why I do this, but I find it is easier sometimes to have some splatter right at your fingertips instead of having to hunt it down when working.

I have 2 new sets of Hi-Res PS Brushes coming out very soon. The sets will be titled “Acrylic Texture” with one set focusing on brush strokes and the other a little more abstract as shown. I have all the brushes painted, it’s just a matter of scanning, tweaking, and testing. In the past I have done all of my brushes through taking pictures of them and then importing them into photoshop. This will be my first set done with a scanner. I’m very pleased and impressed with the results so far. The scanner is far superior in my view. I’m extremely excited to be releasing them, so please let me know if you like them.  Click the link below to get to a hi-res preview.  this is the actual brush, not a photograph or scan, this is what you will get.

Here’s a set I put together after cleaning out my attic and finding some awesome old wood planks. Feel free to use them in your personal or commercial works, but do not redistribute these textures.
